Three-bar pack of KAKIORA Japanese persimmon soap

Where to buy persimmon soap in Ireland: pharmacies, shops and online

If you have searched for "persimmon soap Ireland", you have probably noticed it is easier to read about than to find on a shelf. Persimmon soap, also called kaki soap, is used against nonenal, the oily compound linked to the stale smell some people notice on their skin and clothes from their 40s onwards. This guide covers where it is and is not sold in Ireland, what to watch for online, and how to check that a bar really contains persimmon.

How we checked: on 7 October 2026 we searched each retailer's website for "persimmon soap" and "kaki soap". We did not visit any shops, and ranges change, so it is always worth asking in your local branch.

Is persimmon soap sold in Boots, Holland & Barrett, McCabes or Dunnes?

Not online, as far as we could see. This is what each website showed:

  • Boots Ireland: no results for "persimmon soap", "kaki soap" or just "persimmon".
  • Holland & Barrett Ireland: no match for either search. The site suggested ordinary soap bars instead.
  • McCabes Pharmacy: both searches brought up everyday soaps and hand washes, and "persimmon" on its own gave no results. LloydsPharmacy's Irish pharmacies were rebranded as McCabes in 2024, so this one search covers both names.
  • Dunnes Stores: the searches showed soap dishes, dispensers and a fig and mandarin soap, and "kaki soap" also brought up khaki clothing. We were not able to check the Dunnes grocery website.

A dedicated Japanese persimmon soap does not seem to be part of these chains' online ranges yet. If you would rather buy in person, ask the pharmacist for a soap that lists persimmon extract on the label.

Amazon and eBay: plenty of choice, but check the label

The marketplaces are where you will find the most choice. On 7 October, Amazon.co.uk showed 176 results for "persimmon soap", Amazon.de showed 17 and eBay.ie showed several hundred listings. Not every listing delivers to Ireland, so check before you order. Also keep in mind:

  • Not every "persimmon soap" contains persimmon. Some listings describe a persimmon scent rather than an extract. Look for Diospyros kaki, the botanical name, in the ingredient list.
  • Check who sells and ships it. Delivery times, costs and returns vary from seller to seller.
  • Be wary of big promises. A soap is a cosmetic. Claims that it removes odour completely, or treats anything, are a warning sign.

Buying direct from KAKIORA

The simplest route is a brand that makes a dedicated persimmon soap. KAKIORA is a gentle cleansing bar with Japanese persimmon (kaki) extract, coconut-derived cleansers and glycerin. The full ingredient list is on the product page. We deliver to Ireland:

  • One-time orders: 2 bars €38.35, 3 bars €46.50 or 6 bars €67.45, plus a flat €3 delivery fee.
  • Subscribe and save: 14% off (€32.98, €39.99 or €58.01) with free delivery, every 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Skip or cancel any time.

Orders ship within 2 working days, and you will see the delivery estimate at checkout. Every order is covered by our 60-day money-back promise.

What a genuine persimmon soap should look like

  1. Persimmon (Diospyros kaki) extract on the ingredient list, not just a persimmon fragrance.
  2. A full ingredient list you can read before you buy.
  3. Gentle enough for daily use on the whole body.
  4. A light scent rather than heavy perfume.
  5. Clear delivery costs and a refund policy.
  6. Honest claims. It should say it helps wash away odour, not promise to cure anything.

How much does persimmon soap cost in Ireland?

Prices vary a lot between sellers, so compare the price per bar including delivery, not just the pack price. One bar lasts about two weeks with daily use. A KAKIORA bar works out at €11.24 in the 6-bar pack before delivery, or €9.67 with a subscription, where delivery is free. Either way, that is well under €1 a day.

Does persimmon soap work?

It can help with what it is designed for, as long as you know what to expect. Our article Does persimmon soap really work? explains what persimmon tannin does and what it cannot do. In short: it is designed to help wash away the oily residue that carries the smell, and it does not replace deodorant. Our persimmon soap guide has more on choosing a bar.

Summary

Persimmon soap was not on the websites of Boots, Holland & Barrett, McCabes or Dunnes when we checked. Amazon and eBay sell it, but quality varies, so check the label for Diospyros kaki. For a straightforward option, KAKIORA delivers to Ireland with a 60-day money-back promise, and subscriptions come with free delivery.
